Sales Rep Spotlight: Meet Mac

Relationships should matter just as much as products. Behind every Randy’s wholesale partnership is a real person who understands the day-to-day realities of running a retail shop and shows up ready to help navigate them.

Mac Ricketts is one of those people.

Whether he is helping a shop figure out which categories fit their market, simplifying what can feel like a complicated buying process, or just keeping things honest and low pressure, Mac shows up with the same goal every time: make it easier for the shops he works with to get it right.

From Consistent Customer to Reliable Rep

Mac’s path to Randy’s did not start with a job posting. It started about a decade ago at his local smoke shop, when the cleaner he usually grabbed was out of stock. The person behind the counter handed him a bottle of Black Label instead and told him he would not go back to his old one.

They were right.

Mac became a loyal Black Label customer long before he ever became a Randy’s employee. So when a role opened up and he saw it listed on Indeed, he applied. Then he applied again. And again after that. After a few tries, he finally got the interview, and three years later, that persistence has paid off in a career built around the products he was already using.

It is the kind of origin story that says something about how Mac approaches his work. He does not sell products he does not believe in, because he has been on the customer side of that transaction long enough to know the difference.

How Mac Thinks About Helping Shops

When it comes to the most common challenge Mac sees in the shops he works with, his answer is consistent: it is not that shops are making bad decisions. It is that they rarely have enough time to really understand the market they are operating in.

“Every area moves differently, and trends shift fast. I help by learning how their customers shop and what their team sees day to day, then guiding them toward an accessory mix that fits their market.”

That distinction matters. A product that flies off the shelf in one city can sit untouched in another, and a shop that is stocking based on general trends rather than what their specific customers actually want is always going to be a step behind. Mac’s approach starts by closing that gap before anything else.

Mac’s Go-To Randy’s Products

Ask Mac for his favorites and he does not hesitate.

“Black Label and the Grip+. At this point they’re basically part of my personality.”

Black Label has been with him since before he worked here, and that history informs how he talks about it with shops. He is not reciting specs. He is describing a product he has used for a decade and still reaches for. For shops looking for a reliable, high-performing cleaner that brings customers back, Mac’s recommendation carries the weight of genuine experience.

The Grip+ is his go-to on the hardware side. A powerful, portable concentrate vaporizer at a price point that works for a wide range of customers, it is the kind of product that is easy to recommend because the value story sells itself.

What to Expect When You Work With Mac

Before a new account works with Mac, there are a few things he makes a point of establishing upfront.

The first is that the process is going to be simple and low pressure. Mac takes the time to understand how a shop operates, how their customers shop, and what their team sees on the floor before he recommends anything. The goal is never to push product. It is to figure out what actually makes sense for that store.

“I keep things simple, honest, and focused on what actually works for their stores. My goal is to make the process easy, low pressure, and built around what makes sense for their operation.”

The first question Mac usually asks a new account is straightforward: what brought you to Randy’s, or which categories are performing best for you right now? Understanding what is already working tells him more than any catalog could.

He also makes a point of staying current on regulations and product changes, which in this industry can feel like a full-time job on their own. Shops that work with Mac know they have someone keeping an eye on what is shifting so they do not have to track it all themselves.

Some Things Never Go Out of Style

In an industry that moves as fast as this one, Mac believes quality is the one thing that always finds its way back to the top.

It is a perspective that shapes how he works with shops. When the noise of new releases and shifting regulations gets loud, Mac tends to steer conversations back toward what has proven itself. Dependable products do not require a sales pitch. They require the right placement and a staff that knows what they are recommending.

Outside the Office

When Mac is not working with shops, he tends to keep things simple. Getting a little time to himself to reset is something he rarely skips if he can help it, even if it is just a few quiet minutes in the day.

He is also a sports fan with a roster that tends to raise eyebrows. The Yankees, the Buckeyes, and the Packers.

“I know people are going to hate this. I’m not your average fan. I hate them as much as everyone else.”

His tradeshow highlights might be the best part. Mac told himself he would only wait in line for two people at a show. Somehow, both of them showed up at the same event: Seth Rogen and the Trailer Park Boys.
